December in Review

It seems like December came and went so fast that I really do wish I can do it over again with some little changes, but I know I can't do that and that's ok.  We have some great memories and not so great ones.  So I hope you enjoy reading about our December 2011!!!
  • We started out by getting our Christmas tree the Monday after Thanksgiving and it didn't get it decorated until 4 days later.  We could never get everyone home all at once, early in the evening to do so, but I gotta tell you, this is the best Christmas tree we ever had and it is the best smelling too.  Don't you love waking up in the morning to that wonderful smell?

  • The Lighted Parade!!!! Oh yes the kids and I sat in the SUV watching the parade while everyone got wet and cold and even though the kids didn't like it all that much, it was still kinda fun.

  • I did a December daily this year!!! for you none scrapbookers: You take a picture every day in December and scrapbook it right away. I tried to remember to take a picture every day, but I wasn't all that good about scrapbooking them every day.....tooooo busy!!! But I am planning on finishing it up before January is over.

  • I got to work in our friends and neighbors (The Anderson's) chocolate factory for a few days.  I'm telling you that was fun, the smell alone just gets you going.  They make THE BEST chocolate in the world.  It is called Fresco Chocolate and if you ever get a hold of some "WARNING" you will never look at another chocolate bar the same.

  • We had a few weeks that were not so great!!!  Nicole started having panic attacks and that was not fun for her or her parents.  After many Dr. appointments and testing, she is going to be fine and she is learning how to deal with them.  To make a very long story short, she is doing much better......I will just say that High School, new driving responsibilities and stress are very hard on 16 year olds.

  • I went to my Sassy Gals Christmas brunch............way to much fun!!!

  • Michael and I went to the Wilson Motors "Winter Celebration" at the SilverReef Casino.  Why don't they just call it for what it is "A Christmas Party" with Christmas music and all?  I met some really nice people that Michael works with and we had a great time and shhhh!!! but Michael and I did some gambling with the vouchers they gave us.....we won a whole 5 cents, I didn't even cash it in.  It was fun, just didn't like the smoke!!!

  • We had a fun party with our friends The Dockter's and The Presley's.  They brought soup, salad and dessert and I made homemade bread and dessert.  We had a great time as always!

  • The kids and I help our friend do a Christmas project in her 4th grade class.  It was so fun!!!  Nicole and I had the previlage of going to her baby shower too.  Baby is due in February...can't wait!!!

  • Nicole and I babysat our neighbors 9 1/2 month old baby girl.  She is so adorable, but we didn't get much done as she wanted to be held the entier 6 hours we had her.  I surely got my baby fix for awhile!!!

  • Christmas was very quiet for us because Michael got the flu and didn't take part in his favorite time of the year festivities.  He was so sick!!!  I felt so bad for him as the kids and I played games on Chrsitmas Eve while he slept and Christmas night the kids and I watched movies while he slept.  I wish we could do Christmas all over again so he could be involved with all the things he loves to do.  He did get enough strenghth to make it to the George side Christmas brunch at his dad and step-moms.  We had a great time there!!!
Well there you have it.....Our December!!!  Now it's time for a New Year and I have a New Years resolution.....I choose JOY!!!!  yep that's it.  I will choose to find joy in all that happens in 2012 because I have learned that I have no control over the future, "It is what it is", God is in control, He has us in His best interest and He is our provider in all things and He has never failed us.

I love the following Bible verse that keeps popping up in my head,

Isaiah 61:3
To console those who mourn in Zion, To give them beauty for ashes, The oil of joy for mourning, The garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; That they may be called trees of righteousness, The planting of the LORD, that He may be glorified.
Did you see the word "joy" in there.  Joy is in the Bible over 200 times for a reason and this year that reason is for me.  I choose JOY!!!  It's such a happy word and looks great on Christmas cards too.
Our Christmas cards I made this year

HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYBODY I hope and pray you have a good 2012!

Send a Smile

I love making cards!  Here is one I've made recently:

There's just something about mushrooms, buttons and bows that makes me smile and that is what this card makes me do.

My goal in the next few months is to send out more cards...just because!!!  I know I like getting a hand written card in the mail just because.  It really blesses me and I want to bless someone and make them feel good.  Sometimes or should I say most of the time those cards I receive are just the thing I need to better my day.

Think about someone you can send a card to today.  It doesn't have to be homemade or expensive to make someones day a little better.  Send a smile and receive a blessing!

I used the Cricut Lite Live Simply cartridge.

Sassy Dessert

My Sassy friends favorite dessert that I make is this 3 layer cream cheese and raspberry thingy. It doesn't really have a name yet. It's very yummy! I'm not sure where I got the recipe, but I did change it up from the original recipe so I guess I can say it's my recipe. Maybe I will call it "Grace's 3 layer cheese cake with raspberry topping" or maybe that's just to long of a name. What do you think I should call it? How about "Sassy Dessert"?  Here's the recipe and some pictures:

Graham Cracker Crust (layer 1):
2 packages graham crackers, crushed
½ cup sugar
½ cup butter, melted
Mix well, spread and pat down in a 9x13 dish.  Place in refrigerator until next layer is ready to spread.

Cream Cheese Filling (layer 2):
2 – 8 oz packages cream cheese
2 tsp. vanilla
2 Tbsp. Butter, softened
2/3 cup powdered sugar
Mix well until slightly fluffy. Spread over graham cracker crust. Cover and refrigerate.

Raspberry Topping (layer 3):
1 ½ cups water
1 cup sugar
¼ cup corn starch
1 – 12 oz bag frozen raspberries
In medium sauce pan, combine water, sugar and corn starch.  Heat on medium-high heat, stirring continuously until thickened.  When thickened remove from heat and add frozen raspberries, stir with whisk to break down raspberries.  Let cool before spreading over cream cheese filling.

Meet Brody!!!

Well here he is, the newest member of our family - for the next 9 days...yep, for the next 9 days, Nicole has to carry around Brody the egg baby and a diaper bag everywhere she goes. I must say he is pretty cute with his hat that I crocheted for him.

So being grandma to Brody the egg baby is not as bad as I thought. The only thing I don't like is that Nicole has to get up with him at 2:30 tonight and 5 more nights and call her teacher to let her know that she is "up with the baby".......too funny!!!!

Next thing we look forward to is the mechanical baby for a weekend that has a very loud cry...I thought I was done with babies!!!

Gift Cards

I love making these 3 x 3 cards with gift box.  They are so cute and so fun to make.  Very easy!!!

I put 3 to 4 cards in each box with envelopes and stickers to seal the envelopes.  The "For You" label is cut on the Cricut using the Lacy Labels cartridge.  I got the instructions for making it here.  The lady has a cute French accent and makes her boxes collapsible.  I didn't make mine collapsible just because I wanted them more sturdy.  Very fun, cute and easy!!!

To Do

Do you ever feel like you are always reminding your kids about what they need to do?  Well just one of my kids always needs reminding and by the picture you can probably guess which one.  Well, in my frustration I decided to make a "To Do" board for him.

I didn't want to call it a chore chart because I didn't want to "embarrass him".  I must say he was impressed with how it turned out and is proud to use it.  AND as for me........joyous!!!!  He is using it and I am not having to remind him constantly, everyday, morning, after school and before bed of what he needs to do.  I don't feel like I'm nagging him anymore and that makes this mom very happy.

The brackets were cut with my Cricut.  I printed all the chores and magnet labels on the computer and the labels on the side are just some left over stickers and rub-ons.  AND...I gave it a little grunge feel which is great for a 13 year old boy.

I got the idea from the Cricut Blog, but I didn't do it on a cookie sheet.  I went to a metal shop and had them cut me a 12 x 12 piece of sheet metal.  I just couldn't find me the right cookie sheet!!!

Baby Shower Card

I made this cute baby shower card for a dear friend.  She's obviously going to have a girl and so I couldn't resist all the pink.  I'm so excited for them!!!

I used Cricut Wild Card for the card and envelope and Lacy Labels for the label on the envelope.

I hope you enjoy!!!
